This reminds me of a story told by one of our American friends.
Lady walks into the shop:
"I'd like a frame but don't want to spend too much."
"Of course madam, how cheap do you want it to look."

The American friend probably got that one from me on this thread on TFG from 2005, post No 12.

I think the guy here is either a tightwad or might just not have the heart to tell his girlfriend that her taste in art is lacking. I’ll bet it’s a rolled up “canvas” - touristy junk we’ve all seen.
Anyway - £700 for 12 items sounds very good to me!

I agree!! £700 for 12!! That's very reasonable!

Wait until they factor in that her cheapo factory painted canvases need stretched onto custom stretchers because of their odd sizes as well! 🤣🙈🤷‍♂️

"Custom frames elevate your art and make it look more expensive."

I've framed lots of paintings done by amateur artists whose Other Halves have been scathing about their work and don't want it on the wall. They've then come back with another job, saying that because it's changed the way their picture is perceived, their OH is now quite happy to have it up and to have more framed. One of my first customers brought in a painting that they felt obliged to frame because a relative had painted it as a gift, but they were planning to hang it in the spare room. When they came back with the next job, they told me that they now had the picture hanging in their dining room because it looked so good. It's what makes it all worthwhile (well, that and the money, obv :D)
