Raising a canvas in an L frame

Post by rudgey »

I need to raise up a canvas and stretcher in a L shape frame as the stretcher had to be narrow as there was not much canvas to staple.

So I’m thinking of creating another pine frame to around the stretcher as one is 1m x 1m and another 1.5x 0.8m 25 mm thick, question is should I mitre it all around or just in blocks where it screws to the frame ?

Also I have had to paint the canvas sides of the stretcher because the artist had left it very dirty, would you include this as part of the framing or charge extra?

The important thing imo is to make it all reversible, simple and efficient time wise. Instead of an entire subframe how about cutting some small blocks to secure around the underneath of the frame?
Framing charge, extra charge it's all charged in the final price. I'm assuming you asked permission/agreement from the customer to paint the edges.

Yes, that was my thinking, it will not be any stronger putting a sub frame all around.
Yes they asked if I could paint the edges, I just forgot to charge, next time.
