Help!

I have a moulding of a scooped/cassetta hybrid (as first picture).

Every single one of my bung options (as second picture) damages the moulding.

I have tried all three options while amending the projection height of the presser, and the moulding either gets damaged, or the wedges don't reach far enough into the moulding. There's no middle ground.

NB - I've never liked the yellow and green bungs because the stamping area is too concentrated, thus more privy to leaving damage.

What am I doing wrong?

Maybe concentrate on getting your pins into the middle section of the moulding only.
That way you can use the L shaped bung to press down on the flat or 'frieze' section.
Trying to put any pins into the outer section is always going to lead to problems.

Think more about the glue which holds the mitre closed and the pins there to keep it that way whilst the glue dries.

I think that's the sensible way forward, thanks Dermot.

I've done a couple of trials and that solution definitely works out better.

The question is, will one wedge be enough? Acknowledging your last comment, I'm assuming yes?

I'm guessing you have about 20mm width on that flat section so you should be able to push in two wedges spaced 15mm apart.
That would be better than just one wedge.

Maybe wrap a strap clamp around it if it's only the one frame.
That will get everything really tight.
