Hi All,
Is there a better way to mount painting wood panels to a riser on a floating tray frame. As they are normally 8-12mm ply or mdf and not enough to screw into I normally use silicon which I guess can be reversed by cutting. Is this the best way or do some of use some form of tape which would be cleaner but I guess not as easy to adjust the gap once positioned?

You can use silicone, but I prefer a water based silicone-type adhesive, similar to "no nails".
You can use https://www.lionpic.co.uk/p/39420/Heavy ... 25m-1-roll. It needs to be under weight overnight for full strength. As you say, no adjustment in positioning is possible, so depending on the shadow gap width I cut some small piece of foamboard to that thickness and place them around the edges before I lower the panel into place.
If you need to raise the panel off the base, to give a shadow gap then I bandsaw down some wooden square blocks to the required thickness from offcuts, glue these to the back of the panel and screw/fix into them.
