which Hoffmann?

Hi everyone,

I’m really keen to get a Hoffmann router, but I’m still a bit unsure which model makes most sense.

I’d love to hear from anyone using one, what model you went for, whether it suits your needs, and if you’d choose the same again.

I’ve been looking at the MU3, but it feels like quite a serious bit of kit and possibly more than I need. I’m also drawn to the X20, mainly because it seems easier to move around and more practical in a smaller workshop.

Would be great to hear any real-world thoughts before I commit.

Many thanks

I have an old MU2 which I picked up on eBay for £60, I still can’t believe it!!
I think all the models are fine, the larger ones are more stable for large frames.
Make sure you buy a digital measure to set the router bit, it needs to be set perfect for tight joints. The other thing is when you hammer the pegs in do it on a hard surface so the joints are level not like the carpet bench I used yesterday…. Oops

I have the Lion frame joiner which I suppose is the baby of the family. It lives on a shelf as it is lightweight and portable, so I just get it out when I need and connect it to my hoover for dust extraction. It does all I need and am very happy with it, but I am just a small workshop and only use it for tricky mouldings.
