Cheers for the 'leather effect' tip, it came in use this week!

A customer wanted a 'cheap as possible, but looking expensive' solution to a signed photo/record combination. The original idea (of the customer!) was to have a gold frame, red mount. Ok, I says, taking the order, no problem.......... except I have no red mounts, and the supplier is out of stock, and this frame is wanted for this weekend.

I thought as the moulding is a cheap offcut of obeche with a slap of paint, I'd do the same with an offcut of mountboard, following a variation of your tip...... bear in mind the photo is of the frame pre-assembly, nothing except the frame is fixed, no glass etc.......

Actually, I just noticed in the pic the record is the wrong side up! 'Diane' is on the other side, which is the name of the intended recipient........ must remember that on assembly!

Yes it is fairly dire design. It well illustrates the principle that sometimes more is less.

I modified the technique slightly, using acrylic paint, red & thinned black, applied with a sponge, then sponged a thin red coat to tone down any harshness with the black areas. I didn't use a wire brush or wax either.

Best not to use wax if glass is going to be in direct contact.

Hi spit...stunning job you've done there!...it's a lovely shade of red too.... ....wouldn't mind having a go at this ' prospero technique myself ' when i get 5 minutes...i wonder if the Bachelors ever got married?...can't believe they are still stinging here in the 21st century...mind you i mustn't knock 'em...they were my nans' favourite...she didn't get out much...bless her
