Our Patron Saint

I noticed on the radio that today (29th July) is Saint Martha’s (or similar only half heard the name) day, the patron saint of cooks and servants. Yesterday it was the day of the patron saint of labourers.

This started me thinking if there was a patron saint of framers, anybody know :?:

If not shall we get one, and who would it be?

In choosing a saint it's worth knowing whose company you might be keeping. Wouldn't want to choose Julian the Hospitaller or Adrian of Nicomedia, for example.

Its gotta be St. John.

After all 99% of picture framers are called John.

I suspect we would have to elevate our own saint.

I nominate Saint Mat of the Paper Cut.

How about Saint Special Patrol Group? They used to frame people.

So the Wiki link Welshframer posted yields the following -

Wolfgang of Regensburg - woodworkers, woodcarvers

Peter the Apostle - popes, fishermen, fishmongers, sailors, bakers, harvesters, butchers, glass makers, carpenters, shoemakers, clockmakers, blacksmiths, potters, masons, bridge builders, cloth makers

Venerable Macarius of Unzha - craftsmen, merchants, travellers (in Russian Orthodox Church)

Luke the Apostle - doctors, surgeons, artists, painters, Notaries

It really irks me that we don't have a patron saint, now that its been pointed out - wax refiners have about 5!

Understandably there are dozens for brewers - i think we should pick one of those as there would be the opportunity for combined meetings(at a brewery, naturally)

If the truss-makers have a patron saint to call their own, i think its time we stood up for ourselves!

PS I'm an atheist, but there's a principle here!

St Morso - patron saint of good mitres.

St John of Casesse - patron saint of underpinner.

Well said Simon

There are even saints of computer programmers and flight attendants

Quite keen on the brewer thing, but Venerable Marcus of Unzha seems quite appropriate.

What do we have to do? Write to the pope or something. I guess we could cheat and edit the wikipedia entry :?

Hi Couture's,
I can understand most people wanting to be somewhere else, but most of them would rather be in Florida. Where would you rather be?

I see from google maps that Sebring is rather near a large bombing range, so i suppose its understandable! Especially given the propensity of the military to miss targets by a few miles... :sweating:
