Hi
I am pretty new to framing but enjoying the new challenges it brings . I would like to enhance my frames by using bevelled foamboard mounts but have a few questions on whats the best way to do it.
1. How is the bevilled foamboard fixed to the front mount and what with.
2. Do I hinge my artwork as normal onto my backing mount
3. It is acceptable for the artwork to come into contact with the bevilled foamboard.
1. The bevel strips are attached to the backside of the aperture mount with ATG or a similar strong stable adhesive.
2. Yes.
3. How much preservation do you want? It also depends on what type of material or paper you used to cover the bevel. For best preservation use a good quality colorfast and pH neutral paper with a similar quality adhesive. Then use a second mount under it to serve as an additional barrier. Also gives you a chance to work in and accent color and of course charge for it.
Lion have a rather good illustrated how-to for these. If you send Martin Harrold a private message through the forum I'd wager he could send you a copy.
