Just supposing you were not a picture framer....
just supposing you were not a framer:
what would you actually be doing now?
What would you like to be doing instead?

Well, in my first job I had to leave after 22 years service unless I made senior management - that was the army and I left 18 months premature - voluntary redundancy.
Then I worked for The Body Shop and loved them and they me - God knows where I'd be if I'd stayed with them - maybe redundant - it's not the same company any more. So - selling shampoo?
Pornstar - no contest.

So, I take it you would rather be a frame rather than a framer?prospero wrote:Need you ask?

I'd be doing time in Broadmoor. Framing saved my sanity, and the lives of countless Londonerskev@frames wrote:just supposing you were not a framer:

Re: Just supposing you were not a picture framer....
Great topic, Kev! A real shame that it has not been better subscribed, IMO.
So here's another "late to the party" contribution from moi..
What would I be doing now? Either...
a. Service Design Engineering
b. Plant Fertiliser, although if it was legal, I'd much prefer to be fish food. (Not joking about this - was in a very calm, bad place over Yuletide, 2001. Don't knock the mogs: they're the only reason I'm still here.)
If I had had the same financial opportunity to change careers, but had not discovered framing, either:
a. Horticulture / Landscape Gardening
b. University (reading something along the lines of Celtic Studies, languages, or something to do with ancient civilisations), with a view to going into some form of educational occupation: preferably writing; but teaching at a push. (Btw, I'm curious as to whether any of ye think I might have made a go of this with the right academic foundation..
)
c. If the inheritance had been large enough to guarantee that I'd be independently comfortable for the rest of my potential lifespan, I'd study/learn to make music, then become proficient in a number of languages (ancient and modern), and also study the history ancient civilisations, with copious amounts of travelling, largely to sites of archaeological/artistic interest. Also, I feel a strong draw to quantum mechanics... Given that I'd be happier, I'd also want to live longer and would therefore probably take more time to improve/maintain my level of physical fitness.
You've finally outed me: I want to be Daniel Samantha Jackson-Carter. In a cat suit...

Re: Just supposing you were not a picture framer....
I used to have a friend who, when choosing his career thought carefully about where he would like to work. He enjoyed being on hot, sunny beaches so he became one the world's leading consultants on natural salt reclamation.
I always wished I'd had a similar degree of foresight when I was younger.

Re: Just supposing you were not a picture framer....
With the wisdom of hindsight if I were starting my career over again my first choice would be “teaching” ………..one of the greatest pleasures I get in life is sharing any knowledge I may have…..
I do my best to pass on knowledge I may have in a manner that allows others to make up their own mind about it value…..or it’s relevance
In the past I spent some time as the training manager for a “below line marketing” company, it was a very happy period in my career…….
It’s possibly one of the reasons I like participating on this forum……..I can share the little knowledge I have about framing and also have the great pleasure of gaining by what others have to share…it’s a real win win situation
