Latest saga is an intermittent problem with dual monitor support that seems to have "got permanent" this afternoon.
Configuration:
- Dell Precision Workstation
- Window XP
- NVidia Quadro FX Dual Monitor Graphics Card
- Primary Monitor - Eizo LCD
- Secondary Monitor - Dell Bog Standard LCD
- No recent software changes
For some reason, when I reboot I lose the Eizo. Symptoms:
- PC reboot (cold/warm)
- Power reaching the Eizo OK, logo displays on power-up and monitor indicates that it is checking for a signal. After failing to find a signal, it goes into power-save mode.
- Dell monitor becomes primary monitor
- Dual monitor option no longer available in Windows Control Panel - Display Settings
- When the system's up, swapping the monitor cables over on the video card does not result in a signal reaching the Eizo.
- Up until tonight, a few more reboots and the system comes back as if nothing had happened?
Before you ask, yes I have checked the cabling. Has anyone had problems similar to this? Bearing in mind that, when it's in "problem mode" I can't get the Dell monitor to work off the second monitor port on the nVidia card, would I be correct to think this is likely to be a graphics card problem, rather than a monitor card problem. I've no backup PC at the moment (need to sort out my laptop...) so I'm loathe to go mucking around with driver re-installs for fear of losing access to my (pricing!!!) system completely. Also, bearing in mind that it has, in the past "reset itself" without any configuration changes on my part, could it be XP doing something daft on an intermittent basis?
This machine is wrecking my head at this stage...
