I'm looking for a little advice regarding accountancy software. There appears to be no end of free ware available, and wonder what software is the most common amongst the framing community. I only need to make simple returns each year, but don't want to be bitten by the tax crocodile at year end.

Hi Pinky,
I just come back from meeting with my accountant and going through how they want me to keep and present my records, they only want a simple excel file of which they've given me a copy. If you PM me your email address I'll send you a copy.
This is my first tax year trading so learning all the time.

If you don't want to buy Microsoft Excel then download Open Office Suite from Java, here is a link:

Google TAS books - the basic edition is free.
Your bank usually can provide basic software for free - Nat West used to do a very simple but effective program linked to your business account.
Depending on the size of your turnover i always found paying a bookeeper was a good option especially if you have staff and VAT to do.
