I use the Morso (pedal operated) F mitre cutter, lately when cutting a slight sliver is left uncut this is frustrating as it almost always results in an unsightly fault showing. I have contacted Morso but short of sending my machine to them, they can offer no advice.

My blades are sharpened regularly and I have adjusted the forward movement as much as possible all to no avail. Some one mentioned that the bottom blade can be adjusted, would this help, can any one advise.

Send Morso the serial number of your machine and ask them for a manual this will have instructions for adjusting the bottom blades …..also make sure your blades are sharpened to the Morso specification……are your blades original Morso.

To adjust your bottom blades first check to see if there is a gap between where the two bottom blades meet. If there is no gap you cannot adjust them. If there is a small gap then there is room for adjustment. I then take a piece of photocopy paper and cut it on each blade one side at a time. If you get a clean cut then I don’t think they need adjusted. If however you do not get a clean cut along the full length of one side try in a narrower piece of paper at the end of the blade you think is causing you a problem. If it tends to fold the paper instead of cutting it then that bottom blade needs adjusted. Using the foot pedal push the top blade fully down and keep it down. Slacken the bolts holding down the bottom blade and push the bottom blade in till it meets the side of the top blade fully along its length. Tighten the bolts at each end of the bottom blade and then the middle two. Then make sure they are all really tight. Now release the pedal to bring up the top blade. Now try the paper test again.

If I try that test with a full sheet of A4 and the rebate supports removed I get a clean cut V. This is my own method and it works for me so hope this helps.

P.S. I checked my Morso instruction manual and can see no instruction regarding the adjustment of the bottom blades?

After the blades are sharpened several times you need to adjust the nut on the bar attached to the pedal. This lowers the blade to make up for it being smaller after sharpening.

Yep, the more you sharpen them the smaller they get. I cut 2 pieces of matboard and ATG them to the inside of the backplate. The insides (where the blade edges go) are beveled with a mat cutter. This holds the moulding closer to the blades and I don't have to mess with adjusting it when I put on a different set.

As it turns out I'm not going in today... I overwrote my accounting data with old stuff - doh! So I'm redoing it. But I'll be in tomorrow morning (like 4pm your time) and I'll post.

I also use a little piece of mountboard on the other end of the moulding to hold it away from the rail by the same amount when I set the production stop and make the cuts.

Forgive the grungy look. That chopper has been working here since 1977 - it's needs a vacation.

Good idea, though some allowance has to be made for the reduced length you get when the mountboard is in place.

Sorry about the problem with editing your post, I will see if some setting can be tweaked to facilitate this.

Can anyone help me with a morso problem please?

I have just got some new blades resharpened for the first time.

i have put them back on the morso put it is not cutting a 100% mitre

there is a gap of about 1mm + on the inside of the frame when i try and underpin the sides together. i just can't figure out why this is happening.

i don't really understand any of the stuff that has been written below. i am kinda new to framing!

Simple tip: Pull back the left-hand fence on your MORSO a smidge to create an angle slightly more than a right angle. When the frame is put together there is no gap on the inside. Doesn't make sense, but it works.

Ideal for that length of moulding with a slight concave bow.

I always sight down a length of moulding before cutting, just incase it is not dead straight and make the appropriate fence adjustment.
