how do you price a complicated mount cut using a manual cutter - ie doing 50 cut outs for ciggy cards? or if i used mount board for my medals - 5 medal cuts plus picture plus plaque etc etc . - do you work it out by an estimate of the time? Or - if you do a lot of this kind of work - buy a cmc? how long to get the money back?

up to now any of these jobs i do are sort of loss leaders and i make it up with other work from the same customer - any thoughts from the wizards?

PS: Roboframer has been known to cut manually and put slips in as well

I gave up cutting 50 + apertures on a Keencut Gold a long time ago.
Far too labour intensive. Got a CMC and have never looked back. It paid for itself within 11 months.

I usually draw the line at 15 or so openings. But, I have a distributor of framing supplies that has a CMC who can be contracted to do many more than that. Their prices are a lot more reasonable than mine if I calculate the time I would need to do the same. This distributor simply loads the completed mats onto his delivery truck with no additional shipping costs.

However, they are not equipped to do very complex shaped opening or “name” mats.

Have you checked for distributors/suppliers in your area that might be able to crank out these for you?
