The price of oil is as low as it has been for a while, the oil companies have simply jacked their prices up and the government will not do anything as they rake in extra VAT for every increase.

We are hitting 114.9 a litre in some areas now, soon we will be faced with paying 1.50 a ltr. Philip Hollsworth offered this good idea:

This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the 'don't buy petrol on a certain day campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to hurt ourselves by refusing to buy petrol. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT,whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work.

Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a litre is CHEAP, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the market place not sellers. With the price of petrol going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of petrol come down is if we hit someone in the pocket by not purchasing their Petrol! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. Here's the idea:

For the rest of this year DON'T purchase ANY petrol from the two biggest oil companies (which now are one), ESSO and BP.

If they are not selling any petrol, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact we need to reach literally millions of Esso and BP petrol buyers. It's really simple to do!!

Now, don't wimp out at this point... keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!

I am sending this note to a lot of people. If each of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ... and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers! If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it... ..

THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!

Again, all You have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all.(and not buy at ESSO/BP) How long would all that take? If each of us sends this email out to ten more people within one day of receipt,all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8days!!! Acting together we can make a difference . If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on.

So where do the above named supermarkets buy their petrol? I wouldn't mind betting BP and Esso supply some/all of them.

Is there a way of finding out?

I am with you on this one if it can be done by not supporting BP/Esso by buying supermarket fuel.

It’s a woeful situation, but sadly what ever consumer pressure is placed upon these massive companies, they will always come out on top…they have what we NEED. The only answer is to hope that some of the massive revenue that is raised in taxes goes back into blue sky energy research. Hopefully then, we will no longer be forced to purchase this commodity from countries which to be honest will continue to exploit and blackmail us with our thirst for energy.

I'm going to cut the floor out of my Smart Car and push it along with my feet - Fred Flintstone style. That should save a bit of petrol!

Ive heard that the people of Bahrain dont like The Flintstones, but the people of Abu Dhabi-do.

seriously thought of going back to horse transport for local stuff, we useed to do all our shopping etc with a pony & cart until the 90's, took a bit more time but cost very little

hey there you guys are lucky - my local service staion - just now 1.31 a litre!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and this is essex do they think we all work in the city making 1/4 million a year and also the 4 x 4 s are only driven by the wives - that should be taxed - also they drive very badly - baby on bord crap !!!!!! they are incompetent - should not have a license!

Hey, leave off on the women can't drive bit , I drive a volvo V70 cos it is the only car I can get 3m length's in an it's super chipped , But I know the annoying sort, they annoy me too living opposite a school, big 4WD veicles belong on farm's etc & are not justifiable for brat taxi & shoppingmobile

ok yeh apols! just had a bad xperience! agree the school run is a magnet for these numpties. the bigger the 4 x 4 the smaller the child and the less the driver skill!! Not sure about the 3m lengths - think these gals think more of wallet size!!

You can bet that all the 4x4 drivers live within a mile of the school and are too lazy to walk their cherubs to school.

My teenagers have to walk/cycle 2 miles to senior school and very rarely get lifts but my neighbour who has children the same age drives them every day come rain or shine.

When we used to collect them from junior school (1/2 a mile away) and share picking up duties if I was collecting their face would drop at the thought of the walk.

Ironically one girl is a schools champion runner.
