STRUGGLING WITH MY UNDERPINNER (instruction please)

Post by stubrowner »

Can you help me with this dilema please? :D

I purchased a bucmatic 9000 underpinner from ebay at the end of last year, the chap who owned it previously showed me how to use it. All seemed well at the time and the quality was great.

After a few more months I finally got the workshop space I required and installed the machine, I had some orders to complete and was confident my new machines and I were up to the task. The morso worked fine as did the mount board cutter and keencut, however I struggled so much with the underpinner.

The foot opereated air ram seem to push the 45 closed at the bottom (for pinning) this opens the face 45 each time. I have tried to adjust the settings on the pinner to no avail...I dont seem to have enough hands and feet to compensate, or correct it....WHAT AND I DOING WRONG??

UnfortunetIy I don't remember the instruction I was giving at the time of purchase and have lost the details of the chap I purchased it from so I cannot contact him.. :Slap:

however I do remember his demonstration was fluid and skillful (and without the use of all hands and toes), this leads me to the conclusion that the machine is fine just problems with the operator ME!! :head:

Does anyone know where I could get hold of the instruction manual for the bucmatic 9000, or advise me in anyway to improve the situation please....

Must confess I have never heard of this brand of pinner. I just googled it and the nearest I got was a fridge.

Any chance of a picture of the beast?

I've never heard of this breed of underpinner either, so a photo as Prospero suggests would certainly help. It could, of course be your chopping on the Morso that is out (rebate supports set too high?) and nothing to do with the underpinner . . . . . .

Maybe you could look on Utube for a film of a similar underpinner and watch the film to see if you can spot anything.

You could even
message the person who posted the film with any questions.

Hope this helps a bit in default of no one knowing .

If you log on to eBay and then look up your Feedback history (under the Account tab) you will be able to bring up this sellers details. Once you click on his/her Seller ID you will be given a facility to 'contact member'. I doubt that the item description will be listed after this time but from Feedback comments I imagine you will able to identify this purchase.

The only underpinner with a '9000' I can think of is a Euro, which does have a foot operated clamp.

If, when you push two sides of a frame together by hand on a flat surface, the mitre looks good, then it still should when clamped. If not then the clamp has moved it, by lifting or 'rocking' it backwards

This can happen on (e.g.) mouldings with a scooped or sloped back where there is not much material in contact with the fences and the solution is to set the clamp further back so that it holds it with less force.

If it is a Euro there will be an allen bolt on the clamp, this raises/lowers it - raising it can help this problem too.

I had a batch of beech moulding that was not square - IOW the back of the moulding sloped inwards, ever so slightly, so that only the very bottom of the back of the moulding touched the fences. The clamp forced the whole back against the fences, thereby lifting the bottom of the moulding away from the underpinner bed and opening the mitre at the top. No matter how little pressure I applied to the clamp it still opened and the only way we could pin that particular moulding was to forget the clamp and have a second pair of hands doing its job.
