Can anyone recommend an insurer for contents for a small studio? I've just been quoted £670+........

Wow, does that cover buildings, contents, vicarious and third party liabilities?
It’s a case of shopping around until you find a reasonable quote. Lots of contributing factors to take into consideration, i.e. time property left unattended, amount of people you employ, the type and total amount of cover you want/need, and the area you live in etc etc.

Try Premierline direct, 01524597900 they are a specialist business insurer, I use them and yes they are very good and the price is fair.

I use NFU and find them very reasonable for public and product liability.

No Buildings Insurance for me as I rent.

What is the difference if its an at home workshop?

I have just had two quotes here, 150 euros from one and 225 from another. Mine is an at home workshop. The own risk for the first is 125 !
The companies are reaal and central beheer, achmea. Not sure you have either of those in UK.

When my insurance is due for renewal I will be checking out NFU, I have heard good things about them.

I would be particularly interested in comparing process cover (the maximum amount they will pay out for an individual loss/damage) for art work left with you by customers. Its all very well saying cover seems cheap or expensive, but as pinkybanks has already said - what is actually covered and to what value!?

Talk to the companys, they will taylor a package to suit your requirements, as they do for me re individual cover etc.

Find yourself a good broker - we don't deal direct with any insurance company - bar for vehicle insurance.

I'm with Direct Line business insurance and very happy with cover. £24 a month. I have a studio attached to the house so building insurance is covered with that. Direct line cover me for 5million public liability, an employee, goods in transit etc. etc. etc.
