Custom made stretcher Bars

Hi.

Just had delivery of so called custom made gallery stretcher bars, and they are going straight back !!
They had biro (measuring) marks on them, they had been cut by hand, the joints were so loose the bars fell apart when you lifted them,
I could go on. From a so called quality company.

But hence my post does anyone know where I can get GOOD custom made gallery stretcher bars from.

I often have to stretch odd sized canvases. Keyed corners are generally a must, so this has been a bit of a problem. Custom made sizes are expensive and a PITA to find sometimes. I had a bright idea one day, although it works better on larger canvases.

Say if you want a 67" bar, get two 36" and cut an end off each so you have a total length of 67". Of course you have to butt join them and the join will be very weak. Solution: Get two more 36" bars and cut one in half. Then cut the middle out of the other one so you have a total length 67". Then glue/screw the two 67" composite lengths back-to-back. What you have effectively is a double thick stretcher frame, but the joins are staggered so they reinforce each other.

No the ideal solution in some cases and it does mean you have a 2" depth, but on oversized things you get a nice strong stretcher frame..

I've used Renaissance mouldings before and found the bars to be of good quality and accurate.
Was a large size and they came with suitable braces and wedges.

I did try the triangle corner stuff once when I was pushed..... All I can say is that it worked better than I thought it would. I wouldn't like to use it on any very big.
