very basic question, but does anyone know a place to buy wood for faming on a saturday/sunday? live in north london, and tried phoning rose and hollis but looks like they are only open on weekdays.

how about a framer in your area? someone may well be open to sell you some moulding etc.

Lion South in Hayes near Heathrow opening times 9.00-5.00 Monday to Friday and 9.30 till 12.00 sharp on Saturdays

thanks, tried our local framer, and he didn't have what we needed, but is able to order it. seemed very expensive to be honest with you.

he wanted £12 per meter for some simple canvess frame wood, what do you think about that price?

How much do you want to buy? If you buy retail, you have to pay retail prices. If the wholesale price is £2 a metre inc vat and he has to buy 12 metres, that's £24. to him. If he orders it especially he will pay carriage. £10 or thereabouts. So he charges you £48 and it cost him £34. A whole £14 profit. Plus That quantity will be below the minimum order level for most wholesalers, so he will have to order extra stuff that he maybe doesn't want immediately the make up an order. Hardly a huge rip-off.

I hear you. but we have a lot of framing to do, and are trying to keep the costs down.

Lion are very good, but Lion are very good. http://www.djsimons.co.uk/ are in Hackney. They would probably give you the best pric. If you can't make it to the trade counter in the week, why not get it delivered?

I'm just getting into framing, so really want to visit the shop/wholsaler for a look and feel of the frames. inet ordering is fine if you know exactly what you want. Lions looks good to me so far.

I think that should be "but Simons are very good" & yes I would agree with that - fantastic assortment & great prices - in your location - but don't forget Wessex in Croydon & Renaissance in Waltham Abbey too - a wealth of choice around London & we wouldn't want to play favourites...

Try All About Framing they have just opened a big new warehouse in High Wycombe and are open Saturdays 10-2pm. Mouldings are a little limited only about 200 Arqadia mouldings available, but there is a full range of Arqadia mount board and Britania mount board, as well as tapes, hardware, hanging systems and a huge range of other tools and accessories.

Sometime in the new year will see the opening of a "Come and frame your own workshop" where people who want to frame but dont have the space at home can come and do it on site. The 7,500 Sq ft site also comprises of a bespoke framing section, a demonstration area and gallery. It also open 9-5pm Monday to Friday and there is plenty of parking.

Hi Duncan, welcome to the forum - always good to see suppliers on here as well, it means that some questions can be answered directly. Glad the new premises are working well, I enjoyed the opening party.
