I had a Laser for years and couldnt get any spares for it so this week I bought a brand new Artist plus for D&J Simons. Not a good move as it only cuts up to 18" long so if you want a 20 x 24 you have to mark the card and cut it that way.
Anyone else fallen int this trap?

Re: Keencut Artist plus
It does seem odd to have a squaring/measuring arm that short, especially as this cutter is aimed at those that probably do not have a wall-mounted cutter. It must be to keep the cost down.
However, from a standard-sized board (e.g. 32x44) you could cut one of those measurements without making any marks. 32 minus 24 is 8, so cut 8" off the 32" side, or 12" to be left with 20" - just make sure it is 32" and not 32 plus or minus a fraction first.
Still a pain though.

I'm not sure whether it's a 'trap' or not, but I'm not sure what you mean by the 18 inch statement? What is it that limits this?
Re: Keencut Artist plus
I checked out the machine on a website and now understand what you mean.
What is to stop you from making an extension and stick part of a tape measure to the extension to continue the measurements?

Re: Keencut Artist plus
That would work but you wouldn't be able to use the stop, not a problem unless you wanted to cut a lot of the same size.
How's about buying another measuring arm.... or two, and having it/them welded on? You'd have to alter the numbers on the extra scales somehow though, or just stick a new scale over the lot.

Re: Keencut Artist plus
I was thinking about getting an Artist Plus. I still don't understand why there is a limit to to the size of mount you cut on the 40" or 48" version? How does it differ from the Ultimat? Thanks
Re: Keencut Artist plus
It's about cutting the board to size before cutting the aperture.
The squaring arm only goes up to 18" - on the ultimat it is (insert actual figure here >..........<) larger.
If you have a wall mounted board/glass cutter, it's not an issue.

Re: Keencut Artist plus
Thank you for the welcome! So, this means you might not be able to ensure the reduced mount board is square? If it's any help, I saw mentioned on the Wessex Pictures website an optional extended squaring arm (POA) although didn't see this mentioned on the Keencut website. http://www.wessexpictures.com/keencut_mountcutters.html
How long is the squaring arm on th Ultimat?

So there is - nice find!
Topbrand - give Wessex a buzz! Better still, ring/email Keencut in Northampton and pay no mark-up, they will deal direct for accessories/spares, especially if you tell them you are not happy with anything; for any reason - their customer service/support is excellent.
I don't know how long the ultimat squaring (/measuring) arm is/can be set to, but I will look tomorrow. Then again mine's a 60" version so maybe the arm is longer than the 48" version?
(Smallprint - mine is of course standing in a corner, neglected, because I have a CMC, don't you know)
