Job Vacancy - Picture Framer with experience required

Post by framemaker »

I am looking for a full time picture framer to join our small team (currently one full time, one part time, and myself)

We are based in the Cotswolds and our main business is working for galleries, artists, art dealers, and also the general public.

I would prefer someone with experience of using a Morso, joining frames and mountcutting to a high standard, but after that I am really quite flexible about who I am looking for and the skills they have. I would even consider part time for the right person/persons.
One or more of these skills would be a great bonus: gilding, paint finishes, hand finishing (from basic to advanced), frame restoration, preservation framing techniques, oversized, and complex framing jobs.

Other trades/skills that would be welcome are: furniture restoration, joinery, cabinet making, and woodworking in general, to name a few.

I am looking for someone who can deal with various tasks in the framing workshop, to begin with (depending on your level) this would be the basics like: cutting frames, joining, single/double mounts, mount slips, and the completion of framing orders from start to finish. As much of our work is making gilded frames you would be dealing with all the initial stages in making gilded frames, such as the filling and sanding of bare wood frames, sizing the wood, applying gesso, sanding gesso, and applying bole. These stages are all relatively straight forward but need doing properly. Experience in dealing with the public and taking framing orders would be a bonus.

I know some of these are obvious, but for starters, I am looking for someone who:
fits in well with our team, is hard working, able to deal with deadlines, can work unsupervised, has an eye for detail, is practical, is interested in art and framing, wants to develop and learn new skills, is quick and efficient but also has high standards of workmanship.

Lastly I want someone who is not looking to set-up their own business after a few years! This is a long term position, and there is the potential for someone to establish a sound career working with me. I think this is a great opportunity for someone to join my busy and growing business. Our 3 main areas of work are: Contemporary gilded and painted frames, bespoke/custom framing for the public, and restoration. There is considerable scope for all three of these areas to be developed, expanded, and taken forward, and I would value someone who would take an active role in the business.

So if you're interested or have any questions please send me a PM, or email with your CV.
