Cutting V-Grooves on a Keencut Gold

Post by Smiffy »

For some reason my ultimat gold doesn't seem to be cutting reverse bevels for v-grooves in an even, straight line. It seems as though the left side measuring arm isn't securing parallel - and solutions?

Thanks!

To check if the margin guide is parallel to the cutting bar, cut a long narrow strip (say 44x2") of mountboard. Fold it so the two ends meet and see if the ends are the exact same width, if not adjust accordingly. But don't butt the board up to the bottom of the table when you cut, you don't need it for 'V' grooves, you should be able to place your fall out anywhere along the length of the cutting bar ....... buuuuut of course the cutting bar also needs to be square to the table, otherwise the aperture/fall out won't be square, and to calibrate that, do exactly the same test, but this time butt the board up to the bottom of the table and don't use the margin guide.

Once you get the same width at each end of a long thin piece of board with both tests ..... and that width is what you set - bingo - but even then the aperture you are fixing the fall out back in to may not be square, because the board you cut the aperture from wasn't square to start with.

Cheers Robo!

Ill have a look at it tomorrow. Just one thing, is there any particular way to alter the margin guide slide if it isn't cutting parallel? Or do i just have to 'man handle' it until it's where it should be?

Here's the manual http://www.thepaperframer.com/manuals/K ... nguage.pdf scroll down to section 5.2 - you may not have the spacers shown - I must have because I bought mine new, but I never used them, (read 'never found them again after unpacking') just trial and error with the adjustment screws shown.

Having bought it second hand, I don't think I have the spacers and certainly don't have the manual.

I'll be playing with it tomorrow. In the meantime, I'm on an iPad and can't save the manual. Do you have a copy that you could email me? That way i could print it off for any future dramas i have with it.

Cheers again mate

If you Google 'Keencut Ultimat Gold Manual' you'll get it on the first result (with a couple more clicks after) and you can also get it in English only - I'll email it to you via the forum but here's the link for anyone else interested anyway http://www.keencut.com/uk/manuals.aspx - you'll have to go to page 2.

Just actually RTFM in that last link - no spacers - two identical coins instead, so maybe I never had those spacers in the first place!

If you have the iBooks app just tap on the open PDF file and choose 'Open in iBooks' from the pop up bar at the top. This will save it to your iBook library.
