posters for bathrooms

Post by countrystudio »

I have been given two posters mounted onto 5mm foamboard for framing.
They are apparently to be hung in the bathroom.
Is there anyway to seal the edges of the foamboard to stop moisture getting into the foam - or will it not absorb moisture?
I was thinking to laminate the back of the board as well and thought to run the laminate over the edges of the foamboard but the frame only has a 5mm rebate and I don't know if this is sufficient for the laminate to adhere to.
Any advice will be appreciated.
Thank you

I recently framed a couple of mounted prints that were allegedly to be hung in the customer's bathroom.
There's bathrooms and then there's bathrooms - no two alike in terms of air humidity and general dampitude.
I had plenty of rebate depth and the assembly was:
Glass
Window mount
Artwork
Undermount
Acrylic (to provide impervious back face)
... the edges bound with P90 tape then flexitabs and gum tape.
I had about 16mm rebate to hold a 7mm assembly, though.
No feedback so far! :sweating:

If it is already on foamboard & not laminated - then don't think about cold laminating the front - it will look "hsite" - if you get my meaning. I would hate you to try this & then think it was down to your laminator or the materials - because it wouldn't be - it would be down to the foamboard absorbing the pressure needed by the laminate. You could heatseal laminate it though - different technology...

Next - the central layer will not pick up or give off moisture - but the face papers on the front & the back will - so edge sealing is not as important as front & back sealing - I would do this in a hot press & then silicone seal the edges at the same time as putting it into a "plastic" - sorry synthetic moulding frame.

This will create a completely water proof package - forget "in the bathroom" - you could put this "in the bath"!!! :giggle:
Your too late I'm afraid - I retired in April 2024 :sun:
