I have purchased some display fabric (Arqadia 000 000 992) to reline the sample boards over Christmas period. The reverse side appears to be foam and I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to what glue to use to stick them to 20mm ply.

This is a job I am hoping to do over Christmas when Mrs D and my daughter go to the sales.

I use an aerosol version of evostic or something like that, the stuff that they ask if you are a responsible adult over the age of 25 and keep in a locked gun cabinet in B&Q. Just dont sniff it. You could use the regular spreadable stuff but it runs the risk of coming through the fabric.

I probably would too, but I didn't - I used diluted builders PVA and it came through! Would be OK if left to go off the right amount.

I used neat pva spread with a roller and had no problems.

If you have a press and its big enough dry mount it- I used dry mount film but tissue would probably work

NNNOOO!!! - Tissue is no good - but Drymount Film does work a treat - assuming your press is big enough....

Lots of heat & time though - 2 minutes per sqaure foot at 100 to 105 degrees C

Is that the same calculation for working out cooking times for your turkey

Better add 20 mins as well if its is.

And before you ask it isn't quite beer 0'clock yet. But it will be soon. 9% barley wine tonight along with the annual opening of the malt.

pva spread on with a roller. If you water it down a bit, leave it to go off for a few minutes before putting the fabric on. Neat is better, I use one of those radiator painting rollers.

Thanks guys, it does look like PVA is the answer by consensus. Currently I have boards stuck with the impact adhesive and these pull off in time and I am not sure whether my 48 x 24 boards would go in my HGP 260. Not sure I want to try either.

I don't know if this will work on foam-backed stuff but.....

I made a lot of boards for my old shop using HD carpet tape. The beauty of it is you can apply the tape to a board in 2" strips, leaving the release paper on. Peel the first strip and fix one edge of the fabric in alignment. Then fold the fabric back and peel one strip at a time and smooth down. No messy wet glue and you have better control. The fabric I used was not foam backed, but the boards have been stored in an unheated shed for years now and they are still stuck fast. And if you do happen to lift a bit when pulling a chevron off, it sticks down again no prob.

This assumes that the carpet tape you can get now is as sticky as it was 25 years ago.
