A list at the link below says that 180 people have been killed by base jumping. I'll stick to framing, that's dangerous enough...got a paper cut yesterday.

I was wondering why they call it BASE jumpers...

The acronym BASE evolved from the object jumped from; "B" for Building, "A" for Antenna, "S" for Span and "E" for Earth.

Still think Flying Squirrels is a better name

But having read that 180 have died already, am inclined to cross BASE jumping off my wish list. It must surely rank as the world's most dangerous sport.

That and cave diving though I think the survival rate is better than it used to be. who in their right mind would go under water in a confined space with a finite supply of air

Eek! It makes me cringe, although there's quite a few climbers who cross over to base jumping. I went and saw a talk with a great climber, Tim Emmett, and he showed us a couple of his base jumping films too.

I don't think I'd ever be inclined to jump off tall buildings, only climb up them!!

Definitely! Looks like there's a couple of routes (probably to various ledges and not the top) that are around my grade.
