I have two silent compressors, both 2008 models - neither in the best of health sadly. Now I have a bigger workshop with seperate offices and a cupboard I have swapped the quiet life for a beefy 150 litre compressor to also run my expanding machine and tool list.
These compressors are both in need of some attention. Partly because I started out with little and tried to get away with a smallish bambi when a bigger one would have been better (I bought new because compressors can be dangerous or easily knackered). If I had my time again I would get the oil-free continuously rated Framers Corner one instead I think, but that's too small for me now, just a pointer for others. The "continuosly rated" element becomes important as you grow from new framing arm to established! Think it wasn't an option back in 2008 though.
The bambi is a single pot budget one and you can get one good charge out of it. It then overheats quite severely so I would defitely not recommend other than for single use. Even then I am more thinking an engineer who can get cheap spare parts might want to buy it to revamp. At some point I think the pressure switch failed and it was relying on thermal cut out which was never good for it. It also had general compressor oil in at one point and apparently that was a mistake - even though I believe the oil is mainly for cooling this is a common mistake. Otherwise quite nice nick and 24l tank(!). Has tap but needs new regulator/filter, partly because my new sealey came without one. It was about the thick end of £400 new. Unfortunately for me the new pumps cost about £300 and a service kit is about £85 and I don't need it enough to risk spending that. If they both worked some clever bod might be able to make a twinpot bambi from the wreckage.
The jun air is a blue twinpot and think it is about 24 litre tank again or so, maybe slightly bigger. I got it thrown in with a CMC purchase but a similar model is £700 new. Being twinpot it coped better and ran the cmc and underpinner. It has always had the right jun-air oil in my watch and arrived to me fine, if with a lot of water in it. It does seem to have gone down to one pot working now, which may just be an electrical component that needs replacing which the lawnmower mechanic next door thought it might be from the evidence, if I recall from before Xmas. The one pot that works now overheats a bit - but it was useable up until the point of replacement this month.
The new beast 150 litre compressor was about £500 in a very good special offer which was great, and I try not to cry too much at the thought of £1100 of fancy pants compressors laying to waste.
I am open to low offers on them anyway. I could keep them as back ups but any old cheap noisy compressor can be sourced in town in an emergency I feel.
