Stacked mouldings.

I've designed a frame with two mouldings and a slip but I'm now wondering how to join them :Slap:
I've been reading through some older posts and it seems the Fletcher MultiMaster may be a good acquisition for my workshop but was just thinking are there any other methods to join mouldings together?

I was planning on just glueing/nailing them together but know realise this will make it difficult to take the frame apart in the future... but maybe I shouldn't worry about that? :sweating:

Any ideas please

Fire rigid points into the outside of the inner frame and then secure to the outer with staples across the points?

by Not your average framer
After looking at your pictures and drawings I would not glue them together, otherwise in the event of a glass breakage, it would not be possible to replace the glass.

I find Fletcher Multipoints quite helpful at times, but they still have there limitations as they can yield under pressure and in some cases it would be helpful if the retaining screws could be located further from the edge of some mouldings.

With this in mind, I would suggest that the suitability of Fletcher Multipoints should be determined according to the needs of each framing job and where neccessary the alternative option of small screw eyes and fixing screws passing through the screw eyes, if added strength is called for.

The number of Multipoints, or screw eyes required should be appropiate for the requirements of the particular framing job.

What Mark said. :D

Multipoints are quicker. Screw eyes are stronger.

Nice job btw.

Pity the R&H SW 3850 isn't a bit deeper to finish it flush at the back.

Nice Job.

Lovely job this. We use the Fletcher multimaster and is a great asset for the workshop. Ideal for this job.

However Abacus's suggestion would mean that you could fire the staples in further away from the rebate which is quite useful in tight situations.

And if you haven't got a multimaster then ordinary points are the best solution.

Don't glue it! It may be you that needs to take it apart :head:

Thanks for all the ideas. Went with the option of screw eyes. Think I'll keep some various sized screw eyes in stock now for future jobs.
