Football Programes

Hello all,
I have a customer who would like about half dozen football programmes framing. Does anyone have any more interesting ideas then simply window or float mounting? He's quite adventurous in his framing and would spend the money on the right frame, however they're quite valuable so I need to be confident I wont damage them at all! My only thought so far is to make it such that the programmes would sit in the frame in such a way that they could be slipped out of the frame, flicked through, and then returned to the frame after reading. The problems I see with this are mainly aesthetic (could look very clumky). All ideas gratefully recieved!!

Thanks for your thoughts.
Mike

My first thought was if they are valuable, they are going to get progressively less valuable if they keep getting flicked though. Condition is everything when it comes to collectabilia.

I would mount them with polyester corners and glaze with UV filtering glass. :)

We framed a football programme along with a shirt and ticket a while back and found a previous post from Roboframer particularly helpful. The programme was held in place with wide strips of Mylar which then slotted through slits in the mountboard behind the programme so that they weren't seen. This held the item firmly in place, without any need for adhesives. By using this method you can also arrange them at angles or around other items - in our case we had the programme covering the bottom corner of the shirt.

I would agree that the idea of taking the programmes in and out of a frame would be a problem - not only for you finding a way to satisfactorily support them but also in that damage is likely to occur when they are removed/replaced.

Hopefully you and the customer can agree on something that suits you both. Good luck.

Following on from all the good advise above, how about using the club colours in diagonal stripes of matching mountboard across one corner

Thank you everyone for your input. I missed the post from roboframer but it seems like a great method for getting the result we're aiming for. I'll search harder next time!!! I'll have a little discussion with the customer later on today as I need to contact him about another completed framing job.

@Prospero - That's a very valid point. I think he may well like to remove them now and then to show them off to friends, however I may now try to dissuade him.

@Tudor Rose - Thanks for the tipoff about the other forum topic. I will propose this method to the customer and see how he feels.. gonna be a much more complex job if he does have his heart set on having the programmes removable.

@ silvercleave - Would be a nice touch. I'll pass this on, ta!

@ geospectrum - I like the lateral thinking, it may well come to fruition if the customer especially wants the programmes removable. Its certainly given my creativity something to get its teeth into. my only concern is that they would put a lot of pressure on the spine of the program (if indeed it has one!) Thanks
