Metallic Printing

Post by impressive19 »

I have been asked how someone can get a metallic finish on printed media, is it possible? Is there a printer that does this?

Thanks!

The prints can be obtained from most professional labs, eg. Colourworld, Loxley

If you mean metallic finish photo paper then Kodak do it and as above professional labs will print on this media.

Or did you mean printing on a metal plate?

You can find vendors of these on ebay or doing a google search.

If you do have something to frame and it is on metallic photo paper wear gloves when you handle it as fingerprints transfer and do not come off it.

Hi tahnks for the replies, it was to get a metallic printed metallic finish on either paper or canvas - might look into the metallic paper option with a view to canvas transfer but also invesigate the professional labs. I guess this is a fairly specialist print process which I may not be able to replicate at workshop level.

Thanks again!

Omnichrom foil could be the answer. It sticks to the toner applied from a laser printer. Just print what you require from a normal laser printer, place the foil on top and apply pressure and heat. Then peel of the foil and the laser printed toner has melted and bonded the metallic foil to the paper. Easy!

Try googling "foil blocking' or 'gold blocking'

It depends on the quantity, as foil blocking is quite cheap per impression, but you have to have a plate made up which is often at least £25, so no good for short runs, or for large sizes
