The Scream

I have just seen that a version of Edvard Munch's The Scream Has come on the market Guide price £50m.

Image

This pastel appears to be in its original frame with hand engrave poem on the frame. However at first glance it appears to be just stuck in the frame. I presume there is some conservation magic being conjured in the rebate to protect it from the frame and glass, and obviously museum quality anti UV only touched by fairies glass to protect it or is it frame how it originally was. This intrigues me as the frame and plaque add to the intrinsic value of the piece and would interfering with the frame package affect its value?

Any thoughts anyone?

I wouldn't worry about the frame. Might not even be original. Anyone paying 50 million for that wont be worried about the frame. The kids at the local primary could knock one up anyway.

I remember going to the Munch museum, in the lovely city of Oslo, many years ago. I came out feeling quite depressed! The gallery is next to a park which I would recommend to any FF members should they go out to Oslo. It's called Vigelands Park and it represents the life's work of Gusrav Vigeland. It's all erotic sculpture, the complete antidote to Munch :) :)

Fantastic country Norway and lovely people.

That's a nice frame. :D

The overall design is quite awful though. That ugly plaque along the bottom ruins the whole look. Now if someone had carved the lettering into the frame, that would look classy.
