Using 10x14 frame for two 7x5 pictures?

Post by nickib »

I'm trying to figure out how I can use one large frame to put two 5x7 (horizontal though, so technically 7x5) photos from vacation. One is when we arrived, and one is when we were leaving, kind of like before and after. Anyway, one is a dark background (inside) and the other is light background (outside). I was thinking if there was a way I could purchase pre-made mats (one dark and one light) and place the two photos, behind the mats, in a 10x14 frame. I don't want to spend a fortune on a custom frame, but I would like it to look nice so I thought of this approach. I'm looking for advice and suggestions as to whether this can be done and if so, how? Thank you.

I can't see how two mounts side by side would be a satisfactory solution, but I'm sure that most framers would be happy to cut a suitable double aperture mount for you.

Have you considered putting your two photos on Photoshop and effectively mount them at the art stage by putting them onto a white (or any other colour) canvas? That way you can manipulate them in any fashion you want to - apply any number or manner of blends from the histogram and get them exactly as you want them, on the screen. Then print them as a pair. Then mount normally within your 14 x 10 frame.
You can even re-size them slightly, to fit into the 14'' dimension.
