Soft proofing

Hopefully there is someone on this forum familiar with Photoshop, namely soft-proofing.
My normal method of soft proofing is;
1. DUPLICATE Image> (under Image ,not new layer)
2. Window > arrange > tile. This will give you side by identical images side by side.
3. Apply soft proofing to one image, it is now possible to see the effect of the profile in side by side comparison, if too detrimental it is possible to adjust the profile-applied image via. Contrast/Saturation etc.

I have never noticed it before, but after applying stage 1 Duplicate ,one image slightly darker than the other, which defeats the whole object of Duplicate!!
Perhaps it’s my PC, although I doubt it, any ideas?

I've just tried your workflow in PS CS3 and did not notice any darkening of the duplicate image when tiled vertically. However, if I tile horizontally, then the top image is slightly darker, which is due to the angle I'm viewing my screen. Just a thought.

You could also try flattening any layers before duplicating your image?

Do you not mean the other way around?

No, :D tiled vertically they are the same but horizontally the top image is darker.
Wish I had a new iMac with a big viewing angle

When I noticed the difference it was with a vertical tiled image ( I've never viewed horizontally).
I was most noticeable in the lighter tones, in my photo a large expanse of shingle.
I'm wondering if it's worth emailing Adobe or another specialist Photoshop expert or forum.
I'm using a Lacie 324 monitor in a controlled subdued lighting environment so I believe uneven lighting can be ruled out.
It's a mystery!!

Just done a few tests, created new doc. filled with green and then duped> tile. perfect match!!!
Maybe there was some sort of glitch, noticed I had lost my D drive, did a restart and it's back!!
Sometimes I wonder what goes on in in that big black box.
