Needlework bubbling
I have stretched a needlework over acid free mount card and held the edges in place on the back of the board with lion tapestry tape. There is a double mount and it has been framed in an aluminium frame. Unfortunately after approx 2 weeks the fabric has bubbled, I have re-stretched it very taut and the same thing has happened again 2 weeks later. The needlework is approx 700mm x 400mm and is worked on a very silky and thin linen type fabric, there are also a few small beads stitched in the design. When taken apart everything is in the correct place, there has not been any loosening from the board. Customer has not had it anyware damp and there is other framed needlework in the same room where this one has been hanging. Anybody come across this problem please? Linda

Welcome to The Forum, Linda!
I'd suggest lacing it - and at that size - over at least double-thickness mount board. Lacing allows more movement and if the fabric is too weak for that then maybe fabric extensions could be sewn on. In addition; as the fabric is "flimsy" - padding (2oz polyester quilt wadding, cut to JUUUUUUST smaller than the mount aperture) might be an idea - more 'tooth/grab' and will also give a nice 'cushioned' look - will need more than a double mount to keep it away from the glass though.
Pinning to 5mm foam board is another idea, again with padding, but all that might not fit in to your aluminium frame rebate.

Re: Needlework bubbling
Many thanks for your reply, I am going to give it a try on some extra thick mountboard and will probably try lacing this time. Fingers crossed. Linda
