Which mount cutter?

I have always had my mounts cut for me but am considering cutting my own mounts so will need a mount cutter.

I will be using it to cut approx 1000 mounts and 1000 backboards per year and it must be able to cut 2.6mm thick mount board and be at least 36” wide.

I know very little about mount cutters but have picked out 3 that might do the job?

Logan 450-1 Artist Elite
Logan 650-1 Framers Edge
Keencut Artist Plus 1000

Will the cheaper 450-1 be good enough as it's ½ the price of the other two and are there any other models I should consider?

Thanks in advance.

The three machines you have picked out are really at the hobby end of the market. Keencut Ultimat Gold or the newer equivalent is what most people use but I think you will struggle to get satisfactory cuts on 2600 micron board, It is possible but depends on your volume. I never had satisfactory results so i bought at trucut CMC.

If you are using thick mount board you are probably better of getting them contract cut with some one with a Computerised Mount Cutter.

If you need to alternate between standard and double thickness board, you need to set the blade depths and re-calibrate the stops each time, and you can't just 'go for it' you have to do test cuts on scraps first - I've worn out blades doing this; put a new blade in to 'go for it' only to find the depth/stops need adjusting again for the fresh blade!!

It's a pain!

But a cutter that has blade magazines that can be pre-set are an advantage, there are 4 that I can think of - the Logan 855 Platinum Edge, Keencut Ultimat Futura, Fletcher 2200 & Fletcher 2100. The first 3 are pretty new so even if you could find a used one, the price would be high. Look for a used Fletcher 2100 or even two of the DIY/hobbyist level cutters you mentioned so's you can have one calibrated for normal board and one for extra thick.

Or cut the standard thickness yourself and sub-out the extra thick to someone with a CMC, local, on-line or both.
