Has anybody done a "sand frame" before? The picture herewith was sent to me by someone in need of such a frame where the "mount" is coloured "sand". How does one do this? Any help would be welcome, please and thank you!

I suppose apply stripes of glue to the board - sprinkle on one colour sand. When that's dry, glue the remaining spaces and sprinkle on the second colour. Maybe consolidate the whole thing with a clear medium.

Probably more to it than that. Or maybe there isn't.

Thanks Prospero, I have a better idea now of what a 'unity sand frame' is all about and its not as much of a problem as I initially thought. Its basically only a box frame with a picture mounted to the glass The box has a nice lid and it gets filled with sand by the bride and groom at the wedding ceremony. I'm sure the finer detail won't be all that difficult to work out.

How about an ant farm frame?

I framed some large oils a while ago for the officers mess at a Royal Artillery base (somewhere in England. ). They were of military installations in the desert in Iraq. I made the frames with a flat panel in the middle and I had the idea of mixing sand with the paint for the panel. They needed to be a sandy colour anyway. Had the brilliant idea of getting some sand actually from the area. Get all the returning troops to tip their boots out maybe. Would have been a cool thing, but in the event didn't have time to do it.
