solid oak oil float

Post by doogey »

I'm trying to find a supplier for a solid oak oil float similar in size and shape to Arqadia 619 400 000 (page 82). I know it is made by a Spanish company called Toledana but I only need 2 metres and it would not be viable to get such a small quantity imported from Spain. Does anybody out there know of another supplier? Thanks in advance

Funny. Can't find it in my catalogue. :(

Rose&Hollis do some Ash floaters.

There are plenty of deep rebate oak mouldings. Maybe one way would be to use one of these upside-down. Could be done with a bit of adaptation to the back.

Found it.

There are two mouldings - 385 200 000 and 211 200 000 that would make good floaters. Depends on your tolerances on the size. Unless you want the canvas to fit tight, the rebates on the mouldings would form nice spacers. All you need do is fix a strip of wood to the back to form the 'shelf'.

Getting it machined in one lump would be pricey. Lots of cutting. Lots on waste. Easier to machine a flat section and fix you own shelf in.
