Mount cutting hooking

Post by ChrisG »

Using a Keencut Artists Plus to free cut a multi-aperture mount I am getting very slight hooking at the start of the free cut. It is so slight not to really be a problem but I notice it. A brand new blade makes no difference. Could it be the bearings need tightening, there is a very slight free play in the cutter head?

Any thoughts, other than get a CMC?

are you using a piece of mount board underneath the board you are cutting? if not you should , hooks can be caused by your blade depth being too deep , it will help to have as little play in your cutting head as possible.

That said I have not used that particular mount cutter.

could try SE (single edge) blades.

I used one of these before my CMC, I found that I'd get shallow hooks about every two months.
The answer I found was to just reduce my blade depth and loosen then re tighten the bearings.

It worked for me, you never know it might work on yours.

Are you getting hooked corners when you are not free cutting or when you are using the stops
