Today I went to the Pre-Raphaelite exhibition at the Tate. I’m afraid I spent as much time looking at the frames as the pictures, some fantastic work some incredibly ornate frames, major pieces of furniture.
I would have taken some photos but I got told off. So I thought I’d get the exhibition catalogue but guess what they only show the pictures, why don’t they show the whole work including the frame. This is particularly appropriate with the Pre Raphaelites where it is often such an integral part of the artist’s work. I would have thought they would have known better but I suppose I’m biased. The art establishment can be very short sighted and blinkered at times or am I being over sensitive?
I'm now searching for Pre Raphaelite framing references.
