Whilst my output of frames is modest and my current underpinner (a CS88 bought from new in 1998) is fine and probably still has many years of use in it I still think it is approaching the time when I need to consider a pneumatic replacement.

I would be interested in the opinions of Forum members of my shortlist:

Inmes IM-4P
Alfa Minigraf4
Cassese 199M XL
Framers' Corner P5

I think my visit to the Spring Fair will include a good look at all these but I'm not sure I will learn enough to make a considered opinion in such a relatively short time. I would. therefore, value the opinions of those of you who have used any of these.

Cassese 199M XL is what i'd get,and i did
I have used a minigraf4 and an imnes and while both are ok, the cassese would win every time.

i have a 199xl, it rocks, very good.

although couple of small things i would like to see improved

its not tall enough, i am 6.3 and so i have my bench height high, and the 199 with screw feet just dont go up enough. it would not be that hard for the screw feet to just be made higher. i have mine on top of 3 bits of 18mm mdf to make it high enough

the other thing that was a real pain in the ass it the foot peddle, it moves all over, it just needs some more wheight to make it sit more still, i find i end up having to look down all the time to find the peddle, cos its not in the same place all the time

Another vote for Cassese 199M XL ... the second on my list would be Alfa Minigraf 4 but I am never sadisfied with second

Hi, I've got the cassese 299xml. Can thoroughly recommend.

I upgraded from a CS88 to a CS199M XL a few months ago and can honestly say I am seriously impressed with the latter. Only issue I have (so far) is that the 199 is so powerful at pushing the mitres together before pinning that some delicate gilded type finishes can crack a little long the mitre.

I think it says a lot for Cassese that the only responses have been for their machines and all positive.

I've got the Cassesse 199 as well, there is no substitute

I do like the magnetic pressure pads on the alpha, I believe cassese offers this as a optional extra.

we swapped to Cassese 299mxsl from Mini Graf's last year and I'd say that Cassese is far superior pinner- cant vouch for others on your list
