Framing a relay baton

Hi

Just hoping for some ideas on framing a relay baton in a box frame (it's having other Olympics memorabilia around it) for a customer.

The baton is hollow, approx 280mm long 40mm in diametre and made of aluminum -so relatively light.

I'm trying to make the support the least visible - customer understandably doesn't want any drilling through the baton from the back.
My idea was to put something through the centre of the baton and then pulling through the mountboard & securing at the back. Cable tie, fishing wire? My only concern with this is that it may sag overtime....

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

You could put a Melinex strap through it and also a couple around it, but the ones around it should be fine on their own.

Lion do "Optically Clear Polyester Film" Catalogue No. 7595

I did an Olympic baton a while ago and used a floater type moulding as you would if putting a panel in but then used another normal moulding in the same finish stacked inside to give the necessary depth. The frame was black so used black foamboard for the spacer.

The baton was held with straps made from the above film.

Perfect thanks guys, polyester film it is then - hoping to be able to use up in the future the 19.99m I'll have left from my 20m Lion order

I used a 5mm wide polyester strap along the bottom, you can see in the photo. I also put a very narrow triangle of foamcore under the baton to hold it in place, which you can't see.

Here was one I did a few months ago, the baton sat in a rectangular aperture with reverse bevel I think, it was the length of the baton and about 20mm wide, the baton sat in it and I ran glass fibre tape along the back of the mount to secure the baton to the mount, no prizes for conservation but it's an Aluminium baton and it was secure, which was the main thing.

Both great examples of what I'm about to tackle for a customer. Baton, shirt, pins, letter & badges from Olympic volunteer.

Thanks for suggestions will use melinex through the centre & invisible support under to stop sagging.

Very well done, I really like how you have laid it out , filling the to two corners that would other wise be blank space, and disguising the fact it is a big square ugly shirt by putting the certificates over some of the red making it look like a better shape whilst keeping in all the logos.

I agree great layout & thanks for sharing. Particularly like the mountboard Olympic logo. All works well & tells a story - nice work
