Hi again Sean. If I was looking for a new underpinner, I would not exclude Lion or Wessex, but I would shop around for the best deal that I could get, and believe me they will all differ in the prices. I used Lions prices as a base, mainly because its the only english catalogue of prices I have, and...

I think the Cassese CS88 is a better model also, and worth the extra money. As for prices that you get from catalogues regarding mainly machinery, those figures in my opinion should be treated a guide prices only. As for the Lion Catalogue, it was issued some months ago and it most have taken some m...

Nice work on the frame John. The black back looks more professional with that finish then again if it was dark red or dark green we would say the same. Its just looks that its looks better finished with cleaner looks than normal frames with tape and backing board plus the labels stand out more. BTW....

I just had a l...

It would be money well spent, Frame Faery, and with the exchange rate now it would not cost the earth. Theres nobody in England or Ireland able to produce a range of frames to that standard. If you want to learn Handfinishing Techniques or anything for that matter, always go to the best your wasting...

I dont know anything about that model of mount cutter, but we use CNC's for glass cutting and a Gunnar for mount cutting. All work on and X and Y axis. It seems the problem started when you changed the belts and bearings. Now the cutting head does not know where it is on the cutting bed. Sounds like...

Hi Andy The silver on the back of the mirror is paint to protect the layer of silver that was sprayed onto the glass. Where you see the black marks is where the backing layer got damaged over the years and did not protect the silver layer anymore. As the mirror itself is not that big, it might be an...

Hi Ricky. Any luck getting the blades? I'm looking at an old Lion Catalogue its number 41 2005. It seems at the time they were selling 2 types of blades. the Morso ones and blades for Hansen which I think are the same size. But it also says at the time they were selling blades for Jyden and Dan-Clip...

Hi Aine. The smaller size will fit into a Hotpress 360 or a Bienfang 4468 vacuum press but not the larger size, both will take 40 x 60 boards, so not many framers will have a vacuum press to do a canvas transfer using the larger size. Dermot had a post about a guy in Dublin that does over sized drym...

I have not read Pete Bingham's book so I dont know if its the way people pick things up are maybe its a printing error. The use of silica gel is not that pratical inside a frame as pointed out by others. It has to be dried out from time to time. Maybe a false sliding bottom in the frame that would s...

Hi Spit, I got the MiniGraf 44 also. and really like it. The heads that you get with the underpinner are for 7,10.15 mm.wedges If heads is the right word to call them. I know you can get 5mm also, and was sure 3mm was available, but I never checked it out. I still use the Cassese 88 for joining slip...

Only after I posted I thought what happened, that most of the time was spent talking to the guys on the stand. Its a good idea to see the CMC'S working, at least you can compare one with against the other. And also to bring a mount lay out that you would like to see cut. I would also add a V-Groove ...
