Sadly we don't have a cellar. Nor an attic.
But following Alistair's wise words, we'll keep it for the time being and see how we get along with (and without) it.

Excellent. Thanks for all the input!
Will try the brushing and get some wheat starch, too.
We have P90, so will perhaps try that instead of the Art Tape for inexpensive jobs.
What do you all use on photographic paper (not rag paper) when photo corners are not an option and it needs to be hinged too?

Gummed tape can fail if you apply too much water to activate the adhesive. It's worth getting some wheat starch paste as it only takes a quick blast in a microwave oven to make it but I don't even have a microwave so I cook it on the hob which is still no bother :D What's the best technique to wet ...

I wouldn't sell it keep it there are plenty of occasions when a a mitre saw wont do the job ie cutting slips for mounts. If you never cut slips for mounts then fair enough, but I would keep it personally. I am a commercial framer with a Cassese 939 but would never dream of letting the morso go. If ...

Is there a specific brand you'd recommend?

We've just upgraded to a double mitre saw and are now looking to sell our trusty Morso F. We bought this brand new four years ago from Lion and it's still in near perfect condition as we're a small studio and have only cut moderate amounts of frames on this. It's metric and comes with arm extensions...

Hi all, I thought I'd pick your brains and see what other's experiences have been with Arqadia's standard white hinging tape. We seem to have a few customers coming back because their artwork has slipped. This mostly happens on thicker watercolour paper or rag paper. It's not happened with photograp...

Yes, we did all bookkeeping and accounting ourselves to begin with, but as we're getting busier in the workshop we literally find that we don't have the hours in the day to do it ourselves and stay on top of things. And for sure, I could never find the most tax efficient way for my business. We're a...

Can anyone recommend a good, reliable accountant with some experience in the framing industry (retail and manufacturing)? Our current accountant is very precise, but we feel that he doesn't always work out the most tax efficient ways for us. He's mostly specialized in the entertainment industry, so ...

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I guess conservation standard is of importance to us, so am not keen on using MDF and paint... but I'm about to give John Purcell a ring. That white cotton museum board sounds perfect.

Hi fellow framers... Fairly regularly now we encounter the problem of having to float mount very large pieces of art and are getting VERY tired of the spliced mountcard technique... it's just not a very satisfying look. We have come across super large mountboards several times now and cannot find a ...

Thanks graysalchemy... we just spoke to the Compressorman and he was very nice and helpful. However, he said his very best option if we wanted to stay with a silent compressor would cost £2900 + VAT. This is most certainly out of our budget and considering we're a two person workshop using an underp...

Thanks for that... can you tell us which model you use? Looking at the website is rather confusing!
If anyone else has alternatives for powerful silent compressors, I'd be keen to hear about them...
Thanks again.

I'm going to add to this thread rather than start a new one... We currently have a Bambi BB24D (http://www.lionpic.co.uk/product/Bambi-BB24D-100lpm-Compressor-Double,21740,1222.aspx) which is running what I'd consider a small workshop setup. It only ever powers our minigraf 4 and a set of hand tools...

Thanks Prospero! We tried spraying a pre-finished mouding just the other day and it came out quite nicely, so maybe that is something to work on perfecting. We just used some all-purpose spray that we had kicking around the studio and that seemed to stick rather well. Have you used a spray gun of an...

So... a few questions for the seasoned spray painters of you: Which do you regard as the best wood fo...
