Re: Coved Box Designer
I would have been able to have put this 'Cove Box Designer' software to good use in the early 1980's but then we had a very slow Amstrad, which probably would have had a nervous breakdown with it. Then, we worked out the patterns by trial and error, and cut out the pieces in hardboard, these were co...

Re: Deep Rebate options
I was about when this Arqadia method was first bought out, but my workshop was already using a method we referred to as box-capping, we would saw boards down to a variety of widths and use off the shelf stripwood of a variety of patterns to make the box front. A needle gun replaced the veneer pins, ...

Re: Using pre-manufactured boxes to make deep box frames
Nicker Elastic, well the quarter inch equivalent, stapled across the frame about 20-25mm in from the end of the box so that it is close enough for the end panel of the box to resist any sideways crush. Enough flex to allow user to hook the elastic over the box and give a firm pull against the glass....

Perhaps a weather map, I made a few relief maps and would have been interested in a good technique for clouds and haze.

Re: Hello from a Three Dimensional Framer.
I have now recovered some of my material from my old H-drive; http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u297/barewirewalker/caseillustration.jpg The image here is one of a series of 100 which are illustrating part of a procedure for combining an Victorian/Edwardian method with a modern method of putting a ...

Re: A favourite Architectural Frame made for a large mirror
Most impressive, interesting that you do your own resin casting, something I did a lot of. Presumably casting in clear resin you are making your own moulds, this must give great opportunity to customize these types of frames.

Re: New framing business in Belfast
I wish you the best of luck in your venture, an exciting time when just starting out. I had some good customers in Ireland and I believe I contributed a bit to the Irish Pub theme that swept across the world in the 1980's, but that concept came from Dublin, I think, not Belfast. Glad to see you fram...

Re: A recent project using silver leaf
Thanks for those quick answers, copied and pasted into my research file. I do not think likely that I will be putting the techniques into practice as I am no longer in business, anno domine rather than financial reasons, but like Geoff said, he hopes others find it useful. I am working on a website ...

Re: A recent project using silver leaf
Interesting finish and most impressive, would liver of Sulphur be a solution of Hydrogen Sulphide. I am trying to put together a comprehensive collection of methods of making glass cases and such finishes would of be of interest. I am trying to remember what the aging solution for copper foil is as ...

Re: New Use For A Lion Football Display Box
A very well balanced display, the conformation of the cover and base work well with the way you have presented the shoes. Since I first saw this particular case in Lion I have wondered if it works as well with a football.

Re: Large gold frames for outside????
I have just returned from walking around Shrewsbury, as I came up Pride hill I saw an A board made of 2 ornate gold frames about 3-4in., holding blackboards about 30in., 20in hinged at the top and legs screwed to the back of the frames, judging by the scuffing on the legs this piece of street furnit...

Re: Hobby vs. business
I turned my hobby into a career in the late 1970's, with a redundancy settlement and the need for a complete change of occupation. My hobby became my job and the R & D for the new career became my hobby, I had a 30 year career, which I do not regret, with the satisfaction of knowing it was mostl...

Re: Hello from a Three Dimensional Framer.
That's great and the rendering is pretty good, I suppose using a gaming engine you are able to create movement, which is something I would like to do with sketch-up but the software costs, although I have been using the demo versions. My old computer, which I have learnt most of my modelling techniq...

Re: Hello from a Three Dimensional Framer.
Thanks for your welcoming posts, Steve and John and your interest, Prospero in 3D modelling. I use Sketch-up and for a time I had access to Sketch-up pro, but this gave me access to to a bit more that I did not use, by persisting with the free version I think I have learnt how to get more out of the...

Hello from a Three Dimensional Framer.
Hello to members of this forum, in advance I wish to apologize, if that is necessary, as I am a retired. As I was a 3D framer, I still try to keep in touch with methods and objectives of the craft. To this end I am learning to model in 3 dimension with the virtual reality of my PC, so that I am able...
