Memorabilia
Hi all, we're hoping to open our shop in may. Just planning a little gallery area. I'd like some sporting memorabilia that we have framed both as examples and for sale, the question is, where do you get it from?
The only things I seem to find online are already framed, which defeats the object obviously.
Any ideas? A shop I visited a month or so ago had everything from Michael Jackson to Wayne Rooney to Connor magregor signed pieces, all beautifully done. Any idea where this stuff is sourced from?

Re: Memorabilia
I specialise in signed memorabilia, selling items I go and collect myself at various football grounds, venues for concerts etc.
Be careful buying anything in, there are thousands an thousands of fakes out there. I wouldn't strongly avoid buying anything from EBay as it doesn't sound like you will be able yo spot the real ones from the fakes - as fakes are getting 'better'. If it seems too good to be true it usually is!
If you want to buy in, stick to the main memorabilia dealers like A1 Sporting Speakers would be my advice. Sell a fake an your reputation gets smacked.

Re: Memorabilia
We bought our examples from Ebay and to be honest as they are wall examples we don't care whether they are genuine or fakes. They are there just to demonstrate your art.
We bought a number of football and rugby shirts, golf balls, cricket bats. When you need a change its not too difficult to replace either.

Re: Memorabilia
Hey 242,
It looks like you're on the right track with sourcing material. As ds128hcliverpool mentioned, picking up jerseys at the club's shops is a good source - often they will have older, retired items on sale, too. We have gone that route, as well.
I just wanted to share with you that this is the subject of my seminar next weekend in Bologna at FAMAart. I will be presenting "Award Winning Shadowbox Framing Designs" for the ACIP (Italian Professional Framers Association). It will be presented on Sunday, March 5th. Many issues on mechanics shared and discussed but also dozens and dozens of designs shown as well.
Regards,
John

Re: Memorabilia
PM sent.
I've run a memorabilia orientated framing business for almost 10 years now. The businesses go hand in hand for me.
I cannot agree with the comment above re: "to be honest as they are wall examples we don't care whether they are genuine or fakes".
You'll live or die by your reputation and having something that isn't authentic doesn't make for a good start.

Re: Memorabilia
Be realistic! If a picture framer has a fake Picasso inside a frame that is advertising his frames, that no more - or less - diminishes his frames than if he has fake memorabilia in his frames.

Re: Memorabilia
If you get hold of some real memorabilia and frame it, you can put a price ticket on and sell it, in fact put a price ticket on any example of framing you have on the wall
