Hello from Felstead Studios, London!
Hello everyone,
I want to FINALLY introduce myself. My name is Michael Wormack and I own Felstead Studios, a framers in East London (Hackney Wick).
I've actually been stalking this forum for a few years now. Almost 4 years years ago I met someone who was closing their framing business down and leaving London, I ended up buying out their client books, some of their machinery/stock, and their business lease. 2 and a half years ago I opened my own framing business. It was a huge leap for me as I was most definitely not a framer. I hired a team of experienced framers, all ex-John Jones, who were indispensable, but I was also spending day and night trawling through this forum looking for answers on business practices, framing techniques, and questions I hadn't even thought of yet. So thank you to every one on here, you don't realise how important your knowledge has been for me over the years.
Personally I was originally trained as a jeweller, gemmologist, diamond grader, jewellery appraiser, and art appraiser. My entire career has been working with galleries, jewellers, high-end pawnbrokers & financial lenders, and most recently as a pawnbroking expert on TV. So opening a framers was a huge risk, but my experience in galleries meant that I knew a lot about framing, just from the clients point of view.
If you wanted to know more about us, our website is www.felsteadstudios.com although please be aware that we're currently in the middle of redesigning it, so there's a lot of missing content, deadlinks, etc, but that should all be fixed over the next couple of weeks. Our social media handle is @felsteadstudios and you can see a lot of what we do on our instagram page. We're a contemporary framers who deal primarily with the art trade, so artists, galleries, and dealers. We're specialising in (or pushing to specialise in) high quality hand finishes, but we do offer a small selection of pre-finished and chop mouldings.
I'm now trying to find our own personal and unique framing style going forward, and unique finish styles. I'm still see myself as very much inexperienced and I have endless questions! Hence why it's time to stop secretly stalking this forum and to finally get involved.
This intro want on far longer than I planned so if you've read up to this point then well done and thank you! I look forward to chatting to all of you.
Michael

Ooo I've just seen that you've got an "ology"!
If the significance of an "ology" is before your time, have a look at this classic clip:

Haha! I very much know the reference, although I was a little young to remember the ad when it first came out. I have had several 'I have an ology!' moments over the years! Sadly it's a far cry from being a scientist, but if you need to know anything about diamonds then I'm your man

Hi Michael,
What a lovely way to introduce yourself; I always get a warm glow when people thank the knowledgeable on here (of which I am NOT one!) for their generosity of spirit in sharing such hard-won expertise.
Your background sounds fascinating - and I'd wager you'll make a storming success of this.
To jump in with both feet the way you have is bloody brave - and you deserve all the success you get.
Welcome to the forum, fella, see you around the boards!
Paul
PS. Great to have a pawn star on the forum
(You'll get used to my crap jokes!)
