2mm or 3mm glass?
I've been asked to replace some glass, which is 950 x 350. I haven't yet seen the job. I think 2mm glass is probably OK but because it's a bit long and narrow, I thought I'd check with the experts whether 3mm glass would be better. Thanks.

I wouldn't give it a thought to use 3mm on that size, 2mm is fine

Thanks Steve. I thought it would be but sometimes you doubt yourself (or at least I do!)

I don't not know were this comes from, but I understand that 2mm is spposed to be O.K up to 1 meter square, so I'm say 2mm is O.K., but 3mm won't do any harm either!

Thanks Mark, I'm going to stick with 2mm

Re: 2mm or 3mm glass?
2mm glass is fine. 3mm may be a tad stronger, but it would be 50% heavier.

2mm will be fine but I start to think about 3mm once the piece of glass to be cut is longer than the 914mm width of the glass sheet.

I don't know what the maximum size is for 2mm water white glass, but it is definitely less that normal float glass! Normal float glass has added iron and that adds extra strength, it also adds a slightly green tint to the glass. Some specialist glasses are 2.5mm thick, I am guessing that this has something to do with how much less strength water white glass has to offer, but I have not seen anything official about this.

I would be happy to use 2mm glass on any size.

2mm glass for me
but I do think it makes a difference on how the glass is held in the frame. 5mm spacers will offer less support than say a wide window mount!
That's interesting Mark, just looking on the Wessex website, I see they only do 3mm WW glass now... I'm sure I used to order 2mm WW glass?

I did not know about the 3mm water white glass. Every day is a school day!

I have heard that Wessex's supplier of the 2mm WW has closed down. Unknown whether this is for good or not.
