How old is your Morso?

Post by pinkybanks »

Having just purchased a 'RED' morso, and doing a little research into its age, Imp now fascinated to know if any one has an older Morso than me (early 1935). Serial 379.
I have many old woodworking planes and chisels dating back to that era, and it just shows had well things used to be made.

Wow,
can't beat 1935,but it just goes to show what an excellent piece of kit they are.And if you sold it tomorrow you would get a fair price for it,(nevermind the amount of mitres it has seen through the years).
All the best

I've got a green 1961. Anyone know when the colour change happened?

Information found upon the Morso site states that the colour was changed in the late 1950s, when they also altered the frame and leg design.

Watch those bright silvery blades when you are cleaning the grease off.

So my 1961 veteran is actually the very latest model then!

I'm on my third Morso bought new 2009

Bought a new one also about 5 or 6 years ago new......sold it to somone in Donegal when I exited the framing business...

My first one was bought sight unseen from a window manufacturer in Cork....it was one of the red ones, it was made in about 1952...

Sounds silly, but I feel somehow privilaged to be using such an old tool. Many men would have toiled over it during its 75 year history. Like a clasic car , but its come to a good home, and may be the oldest UK Morso.
