Tee Square/Ruler For Glass Cutting
Tee Square/Ruler For Glass Cutting
Hi
Please does anybody know where I could buy a good Ruler/Tee Square for hand-cutting glass.
At the moment I am using a straight edge and cutting the glass straight and accurate.
But occaisionally the straight-edge slips from beneath my hand and spoils the cut.
Thanks: Vince

The Maped Profila is a great straight edge - it's designed for a hand-held mount cutter but available on its own - also has a measuring scale.

Re: Tee Square/Ruler For Glass Cutting
Hi, I cannot seem to find any metal rulers on the lion website - are they called something else?
Thanks
Thanks
Re: Tee Square/Ruler For Glass Cutting
A word of caution the 24 and 36” metal rules are really only for measuring and very light cutting, if you have to do heavy cutting they will flex to much also they are to thin to work very well with a glass cutter and will also flex for glass cutting.
And a framers tip………….. If you have a straight edge that slips on glass when you are trying to cut, get a length of very very fine grit/sand paper and stick it to the side of the straight edge you put on the glass this should eliminate the slipping.

Re: Tee Square/Ruler For Glass Cutting

when all is said and done - there is more said than done.
Re: Tee Square/Ruler For Glass Cutting
by far the best straight edge i have had or used is the hotpress one, big purple ruler
its not the cheapest, but has a foam base so doesnt slip, very stiff and has a finger guard so no slipping with scapel into my fingers
in my opinion its worth the investment

Cut a thin strip of non-slip rubber (rolls can be bought in poundworld/poundstretcher type shops) apply to underside of straightedge with D/S tape, also acts as a cushion on the glass. Many other uses to. !!

Re: Tee Square/Ruler For Glass Cutting
thanks for the link - there I was thinking it would be called a "ruler" !

Re: Tee Square/Ruler For Glass Cutting
A strip of rubber under the straight edge will stop it slipping - I would avoid putting any form of abrasive material under the straight edge - If you cut any of the coated glasses it could be a costly exercise as the abrasive would almost certainly scratch the surface.

Re: Tee Square/Ruler For Glass Cutting
I'm going to resurrect this posting and ask for framers current recommendations for glass cutting T squares. 1200mm probably large enough for my needs. I live near Manchester if that's helpful regarding suppliers.
Wessex have one http://www.wessexpictures.com/glass_sundries.html but any recommendations would be appreciated.
