Problem time again. I have a couple of large posters to frame and want something good and strong for hanging them. I usually use D-rings, which have been all right so far - but then I've never done anything this big. I got some strap hangers, but they are too big. Also, what about wall fixings? Has anyone got any ideas please?
Thanks for your help - so good to know that there are people out there with all the answers!

Re: hangings
Inverted mirror plates with a keyhole are a possibilty. Fixed to the top rail of the frame. Can be a problem if the back if flush with the frame at the back. You need a small space to clear the wall screw heads. Also, they are very hard to get perfectly level.
What about doubling up the D-Rings. On a narrow frame you can use two double ones side-by-side. Or if there is room, two in line. I have been known to use three double ones in line on a big frame.
Z-Bars are probably the best solution. Easier to position and level on the wall.

Re: hangings
like prospero I think z bars are the best option( he always has great answers). When hanging a heavy frame I am usually more concerned about the wall fixing than the frame fixing. Fixing to a concrete wall is ok but when fixing to plasterboard it is much harder to get a strong fix. you can put big heavy fixings to the back of the frame but if this is hanging on one wall plug on plasterboard then it might not be there too long. Another benefit of the z bar is that you can put one along the top od the frame and another along the bottom spreading the load over a large area. http://www.picturehangers.co.uk/framers ... ngers.html

Re: hangings
Lion do some nice slotted hangers (P108 - cat 46). On a decent wall*, they would hang on a couple of standard picture hooks. The slot makes leveling easier. Although to do the job properly, the framer would have to go round and hang the thing. Something I personally try to rule out of my life completely.
* The wall is usually the weakest link, as Emeraldart correctly points out.
