Help! Blonde Moment.

Post by prospero »

How the heck do you thread an ATG gun? I only got one recently and I managed to thread the first reel in OK, but I can't figure out how the get another one in. I just can't get my head round it.

And I have the instructions in front of me that seemed to have been designed for very tiny people with super-human eyesight.

if its supposed to make life easier why is it so difficult? what does atg stand for its a bit like older windows you had to press start to close it down! you could have put it on for sale!

My ATG gun has a diagram inside the lid to show how the tape should be threaded. I guess I've threaded over 1000 rolls by now. Should be able to remember how to do it without looking at the diagram, but I always check it!

This gun is my second in 25 years and should last me out unless I drop it and it breaks.

If ATG is an abbreviation of Adhesive Transfer Gun - how can you have an Adhesive Transfer Gun Gun - you've either got an ATG or an AT Gun :?

i bought one recently

I was using my offcuts of mount film before

the ATG gun is a big time saver.

the only issue i have had, it the tape coming off and wraping round the second roller instead of transferring to the board or whatever

I've got two ATG guns, but have not used them for years as I find "finger lift" tape is so much better and cheaper too!

Dont be so hard on our Ozzie friend. Realise he lives a zillion miles from civilisation in NSW.
He is decended from a bunch of nobheads we shipped out there because they were causing a nuisance back home - convicts

He has only repeated the word "GUN" - is that a crime ?
He will celebrate 25 years as a framer this year - go easy on him.

Anyway since your post 2 more highly intelligent UK framers have called it an ATG gun - probably just to pull your chain!

Added later...Just seen that Prospero also called it an ATG GUN - Robo - seems you are in a minority one 1 as just about every one calls it an ATG GUN !!

I have visited distributors and framers in over 100 countries - no two are the same.

You've hit the nail right on the head Keith.
Matthew James Everingham, who I descend from, stole a few books from his employer, to buy food and was shipped to New South Wales on The "Scarborough" - a first fleet ship! I actually have another first fleeter in my family tree, but I can't remember his name at the moment.

Some people reckon I'm a bit of a scallywag and that could be because of my ancestry. I'm proud of my ancestry and happy that Matthew was shipped out here, because the climate is much better here than there, so there, hahahahaha!

Gun, gun, gun, gun, gun, gun, gun, gun, gun, gun, gun, gun, gun, gun, gun, gun, gun, gun, gun, gun, gun, gun!

I have 2 tape guns. One with standard ATG and one with 'conservation ATG' (at least, that's what it says on the box).

I always study how the old reel was fitted before replacing it. That works fine till you buy some cheap ATG from eBay and discover it's wound inside out.

Keep a diagram pinned on the wall. That's what I do and I have to refer to it most times I reload the tape.

Permanent black marker pen - arrows drawn on the clear casing to indicate direction of feed works for me.

I'm a Mensan called James Cook, funnily enough talking of Australia, and from fairly near Whitby and Scarborough. So I feel qualified to speak here.

I was the only person in my organisation of 4 who could load the ATG, usually with a struggle each time. Even then if it had not been used for a bit the adhesive would stick to the roll rather than the mountboard as decribed above.

I only got it second hand in a box of goodies so not sure if it was wound the right way.

I found it useful for double laminating cardboard strips for making strong packing boxes, but in the end saw narrower fingerlift tape would do the job at a fraction of the cost.

Once the tape ran out we never replaced. A shame the stuff is so expensive as it was handy when it worked.

As we do a lot of craft stuff - we buy 'acid free' ATG tape for resale - so - less than half what the rest of you suckers pay :D

Do you mean the adhesive is on the wrong side? Just tease it on to the correct side! In the photo of the red gun above - on the piece of tape that is parrallel to the bottom of the photo ...... if the tape is on the inside of that and not the outside - stick it on the reel and next time round it should be on the outside and stay there.
