What do you do with your Morso wood shavings
Just wondering if any of you re use your wood shavings. In a closed fire they might burn away nicely but in an open fire I reckon they probably set the chimney on fire. Can they be made into fire logs. If so what is the process. I know its probably easier to bin them but just had and an idea to see if anyone has put them to good use.

Get yourself a compost heap. You'll never look back.

Use them to light the fire. Wrap in a sheet of newspaper or, even better, one of those brown paper bags used by greengrocers. A bagful of Morso chipping is better than a standard firelighter.

Re: What do you do with your Morso wood shavings
The local baker takes all my morso shavings along with the rest of my scrap wood.
I did use them to light an open fire at one time but we no longer have one.
I have heard of them being sold to people who make popourri (nor sure if that is the right spelling)

i made a chute from a praper roll box and a box beneath it
savings slide down for easy collection in box, nice thing is means box is to the side of morso and i dont have to reach over it to get the box

Re: What do you do with your Morso wood shavings
I have a Morso chute but stopped using it. I found that chippings would hit it and bounce all over the working.
This is my Mark II chippings catcher. The Mark I didn't have slots for the foot pedal arms and got crushed the first time I used it. The Mark II version has been in service now for two or three years.

My machine is against a wall - I used about 100cm length of PVC gutter - splayed on one side with a flat piece of wood wider than the gutter and crimped on the other end with cable ties - this rests just under the trays on the machine - waste flows down into box on side of machine

Re: What do you do with your Morso wood shavings
Thats the one I have as well Mike(markII version) ,
But I like the sound of some of the other ones as moving the morso closer to the wall would add a little space to my cramped workroom.
Cheers

I have a hole in the floor, and a chute down to the cellar - dont even have to move the Morso to empty the chippings.
I use those in the chiminea in the garden - they do create a few sparks though!!

A couple of us use the 'fire grate' system!
There are quite a few people who call in for my Morso shavings, but hardly ever when I'm ready for them - too soon or too late. They usually end up in the wheelie bin.

I thought that was the 'budgie cage' system.A couple of us use the 'fire grate' system!
It's the elegant solution. Not really practical in my workshop though. I once lashed up a cardboard chute which fed into another cardboard chute going sideways. All strapped up with parcel tape. Looked a bit rough but it worked quite well. The tape eventually dried up and dropped off though and I never made another. I'd get a proper Morso chute, but I would rather scoop the shavings by hand than cough up the dosh because basically I'm a tight-fisted git.

Re: What do you do with your Morso wood shavings
I use the add-on chute (for earlier model Morsos), works a treat. I'd be a bit careful about burning the offcuts though, softwoods produce a lot of sticky tar due to the wood's resin content, and I don't know what the "wrap" is made of most of the time.
